Swayed by South Africa

Little did I know of the wonder that I was going to explore, the story that unfolded was definitely the one to be told….

It was the month of August when we visited South Africa. The weather  was quite pleasant ranging from pleasant sun shines in the day time to mildly cold at night.

We began our journey from Johannesburg. As Africa is a continent full of biodiversity the first thing to do was to enjoy a jungle safari. Johannesburg provides you a large number of jungle safaris to choose from, some famous ones include pilanesberg, Kruger etc.

After that we visited the most famous tourist spot of Johannesburg, The Constitution Hill.  Presently it is where the constitutional court of the country is situated but this large complex also includes the number 4 prison block.  Mahatma Gandhi has also been a part of this prison meant for common law prisoners.

The walls of this prison still tells us the horrifying experiences faced by the inmates and the cruelties imposed by the practice of Apartheid.

This prison also has on display various  items of daily use belonging to Mahatma Gandhi while he was a prisoner.

Mahatma Gandhi’s statue is also seen at the Gandhi Square, which is a lively patch of Johannesburg.

Not very far off from Johannesburg is Sun city , a very luxurious  hotel and casino. Aishwarya Rai was crowned as the miss world at this very location.

Another attraction at Johannesburg is a large number of magnificent casinos Montecasino  is the grandest casino present here which you shouldn’t miss. So if you enjoy gambling, Johannesburg is the place to try your luck!

Johannesburg would also never disappoint art lovers as the city has a lot of art to offer. Origins centre museum and African Craft Market of Rosebank are just a few examples.

From Johannesburg  we moved on to Cape town. It was a short pleasant

journey with British Airways. The journey from airport to hotel witnessed some picturesque sights of Cape Town.

After reaching hotel, we again went out after a while to explore the captivating Cape Town. The weather was amazing with a soothing sea breeze blowing all around. The landscape was beautiful, well built luxurious villas sided the roads along with the refreshing white sand beach. We witnessed sunset sitting there, enjoying every bit of what Cape town had to offer.

The next day we explored an iconic view of Cape Town through The Table Mountain. A cable car starting from the base of the mountain takes you to the very top, giving you a beautiful view throughout the journey if you are lucky enough to find a pleasant weather that day. On the top, temperature declines by 3-5 degrees so be prepared for it. You’ll also find some shops to eat, drink and buy souvenirs at the top!

After this we went on to see The Cape Of Good Hope. It is at the southern tip of the cape peninsula and provides an astonishing view of the light and dark blue waters from the Atlantic and Indian oceans meeting here. You can also climb the lighthouse to get the best view of the place.

From here on we visited the Boulders Beach to see Penguins. It was exciting to see some adorable penguins for the very first time in my life.

We also visited Groot Constantia, which has a lot of massive wine estates, producing very fine quality of wines. The drive through these estates also provide you an amazing view of the countryside.

If you are an adventurous fellow then, taking a Bunjee  jump from the Bloukrans Bridge is also highly recommended.

Other places that we couldn’t visit due to paucity of time include the Robben island, two oceans aquarium and the colourful neighbourhood of Bo Kaap. If you find some time, then, definitely have a look at them!

But now, it was time for us to leave this splendid country and board our flight from the Cape Town International airport to mark a beautiful ending to a beautiful trip.

The trip might be over but these memories would be cherished forever.
